Gift Aid – FAQ

Gift Aid

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme set up by the government that allows charities to claim an extra 25% from a donor’s donation. So for every £1 from a donation we would be able to claim an extra 25p back from the government.

Who can gift aid?

To be able to make use of the gift aid scheme you must be a UK tax payer tax or pay capital gains tax. Anyone making a cash donation who is a UK tax payer can opt to Gift Aid the donation so we can claim back an extra 25% of the amount.

Can I Gift Aid donations of furniture?

We can now claim Gift Aid on your donations of furniture so that we can claim an extra 25% on furniture which has been gift aided by the donor.

Will this cost you anything?

The scheme will not cost you anything. You will only need to sign the gift aid declaration and REBUILD will be able to claim the extra 25%.

What happens next?

You don’t need to do anything after you have signed the gift aid declaration form. However if your circumstances/details change after signing the form you will need to call us on 0161-764-0444 to change your details or cancel their gift aid declarations.

Part of the scheme means RE>BUILD would need to contact you if the furniture generates over £100 and how much we will be able claim with gift aid. RE>BUILD will also contact everyone at the end of the tax year (6th April) to inform each individual how much their donations have made throughout the year. This will be in the form of a letter or email, if you provided us with a email address.
